Our KS2 programme uses the framework of the John Muir Award to guide CYP on a journey of:

• Discovering a wild place
• Explore its wilderness
• Conserve it
• Sharing the experience

Their 'Heart, Head, Hand' model proposes that this experience-based programme of activity encourages people to care, promote understanding and give opportunities for practical doing. 

This learning journey of discovering, exploring and caring about nature scaffolds a journey within the CYP that includes positive interactions and communications by our staff, which builds the CYPs overall relationship and communication skills..

At the start of the programme the CYP and our staff design the programme together, focusing on areas of interest that the CYP identifies. This is important because it allows the CYP:

• To be listened to and understood 
• Develop their own programme that demonstrates ambition, aspiration and motivation because the learning is meaningful and relevant to them and builds upon their strengths and interests
• A flexible of approach that is centred on their interests

Participation and completion of a programme that is centred on a connectedness to nature allows for an:

• Increased confidence, self-esteem, self-efficacy, value in themselves
• Positive experiences where they can succeed  through personalised rewards and positive individualised feedback..
• Improved relationship and communication skills through positive relationships with our staff
